Neuschwanstein Castle is situated close to the border with Austria, not far from the popular ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany due to its scenic beauty and gorgeous surroundings. It’s interesting to know that Neuschwanstein Castle was an inspiration to the Sleeping Beauty Castle, Cinderella Castles and Tokyo Disneyland.

Construction

Neuschwanstein Castle was built made by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The foundation stone for the Palace was laid on September 5, 1869. In 1872 its cellar was completed and in 1876, everything up to the first floor.  It took 17 years and approx. 6,000,000 gold marks for the King Ludwig II to convert his fantasy into reality.

The palace was intended as a personal refuge for the king and was opened to the paying public immediately after his death in 1886. In the midst of the German Alps, the magnificent towers of Neuschwanstein castle rise over the hill .  It’s simply a breathtaking view.

Set in one of the world’s most beautiful locations, the castle overlooks the idyllic 700 year old, medieval village of Fussen. The panoramic view from the Marienbrueckeis spectacular with unspoilt natural lakes and valleys stretching far into the distant horizon.

During the rule of Ludwig, no visitors were allowed in the castle . Since King Ludwig II  had died in 1886 over 60 million tourists have visited Neuschwanstein Castle. More If we do the math that’s 1.3 million people annually . Over 6,000 persons visit the castle in the summer daily.

The Neuschwanstein Castle is a property of Bavaria witch spent more than 14.5 million dollars in it safeguarding and renovation. The castle has a lot of magical charm to it. Since photography inside the castle is not allowed, most visitors take back with them sweet & pleasant memories. Entrance tickets to the castle must be purchased at the ticket center in Hohenschwangau before you start the climb to the castle. It cost 9 Euros for an adult and the mandatory tour takes a little over half hour.
