Jasper Ski Resort is giving tourists a great feeling of final frontier skiing. Jasper is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most pristine and protected environments in the world. Jasper National Park wilderness has 4,200 square miles (10,878 sq km) and comprises the recreational mountains of Marmot Basin.
Jasper Village is a real Rocky Mountain Canadian style town . Its roots go back to 1811 when explorer David Thompson got his men to build a base here while searching for a trading route through the Rockies. Today it’s a relaxed mix of rustic lodges, cappuccino bars, eateries, a cinema, contemporary and historic Canadian art galleries and museums, excellent indoor sports and swimming center, and a friendly town with a permanent population of 4,500 residents.
Marmot Basin had the largest lift-serviced new terrain development in western Canada last season, with the addition of the new Eagle Ridge Quad Chair accessing two new mountain faces and 20 new trails.
If you are an advanced skier head for Eagle East, Chalet Slope, and the Knob Area. For intermediate skiers there are good middling trails provided by Show Off and Dromedary, and higher up any of the blue or black diamond trails off Chalet Slope are great trails.
If you are a beginner the excellent thing about skiing at Jasper is that each lift accesses at least one beginner trail, which makes it great for family and mixed ability groups and means that beginners can get to the upper reaches of the mountain.
If you’re seeking slope side accommodation you will not find it in Jasper Ski Resort , which is 25-minutes drive from Marmot Basin ski area, but there are 15 lodges, and some 1,800 beds, located in and around the town.
After your last ride down, Marmot’s Caribou Lounge has several bars, while back in Jasper there are over a dozen bars, plus two nightclubs AthaB Nightclub and Pete’s Bar.
At Marmot there are two restaurants and two cafeterias in three day lodges. Marmot’s Eagle Chalet is a beautifully designed log chalet located at mid-mountain that seats up to 60 people.
